St. Louis Green Drinks is a way to connect with each other every month and talk about the Sustainable Backyard Tour and all things green. It’s managed by the Sustainable Backyard Network and fellow local nonprofit Earthday 365.

Gatherings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. at a different Green Dining Alliance member location. You can view a list of upcoming Green Drinks meetups, check our event calendar, or sign up for our e-mail newsletter to notified.

History

Founded in Great Britain around 1989, Green Drinks is an international organization with more than 400 chapters around the world bringing people together over the environment. Green Drinks was brought to St. Louis by Krista Durlas and Brian Merkel in the early 2000s when they moved here from Chicago, which had a very large and active Green Drinks chapter.

Until 2013, St. Louis Green Drinks met monthly, usually at Schlafly Bottleworks. Core organizers included KatyMike Smaistrla, Brian DeSmet, Matthew Brown and Terry Winkelmann. At the time, it was one of the few places to explore topics such as renewable energy in a social setting. The team worked hard to produce monthly educational sessions featuring panels of experts in the non profit and emerging green business community.

Elsewhere in the world, Green Drinks have always been more social than educational and more industry-focused than public.

As of 2022, the newly reinstated St. Louis Green Drinks is an informal, open gathering of everyone interested in sustainability and environmental topics. Our monthly meetups offer a chance to catch up over a meal or drinks, share news, and explore ways of working together to expand understanding and keep moving forward in efforts to protect life on Earth. All are welcome. We hope to see you soon.
